and the winner is...

The election results are in and, after some anxious moments and a near tie, Komorowski has won the election. Here are some photos from the election coverage last night in front of the Presidential Palace.

Election day: Round 2

Today is round 2 of the Polish Presidential elections. Most papers write that the candidates are even so I am very anxious to hear the result. In the last photo, there are some anti-PO (Civic Platform) postcards handed out by PiS.

Polish Presidential Election: Round 1

Yesterday in the early evening, I walked by the Presidential Palace to check out what was happening regarding the presidential election. As expected, the media was present but not yet reporting the results. The results came in last night and LUCKILY Komorowski won the first round but, unfortunately, by only a few percentage points(although Komorowski is still too conservative for me, I prefer him many times more than Kaczynski). The run off election part 2 will be held July 4th.

Election season is in full swing here in Warsaw. Strangely though, Kaczynski's campaign seems to be dominating billboards all over the city --- there is only one visible election ad from Komorowski in the center. Alarmingly, it seems that just like in the US, Polish conservatives have a united front and a very well-planned (and well- financed...) strategic election campaign.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski's election campaign team was out on the streets yesterday by my apartment. It seems as if Jaroslaw Kaczynski's campaign team is the only one out of the streets. They were handing out books about their agriculture and farming plan, flyers explaining that " Poland is most important" and flags with the symbol of the Warsaw Uprising. Overall, there is noticeable propaganda of using the plane crash and patriotism to sway voters towards voting for PiS.
